The ALL-NEW Shoei GT-AIR II
Posted by Whites Powersports onSince 1959 Shoei have been manufacturing premium helmets for motorcycle riders around the world. From humble beginnings where Eitaro Kamata, the founder of Shoei was designing and creating motorcycle helmets exclusively for the racing sector to their worldwide recognition six decades later Shoei has remained true to their passion of designing and manufacturing the best motorcycle helmets in the world. Utilising feedback from riders around the world and professional athletes such as Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith in the MotoGP, Shoei create motorcycle helmets that exceed your expectations no matter your discipline.
Starting with the GT-AIR Shoei had an excellent baseline for the GT-AIR II. Advancements in design, functionality and performance have further evolved Shoei’s premiere full-face touring helmet, yielding even easier adaptation to the ever-changing conditions throughout your journeys. Featuring a lengthened internal sun shield for optimal sun-glare protection, an all-new "first position" shield opening for advanced ventilation and defogging, enhanced aerodynamics and noise-reduction technology, and the ability to seamlessly integrate with the all-new SENA SRL2 Communication System, the GT-Air II is equipped to accommodate your every need.
It’s obvious why we wear helmets, so your helmet should provide the best protection you can acquire without sacrificing comfort and functionality, the Shoei GT-AIR II has achieved the perfect balance between impact protection and rider comfort. Starting with the shell, Shoei uses proprietary technology to integrate a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet ECE standards. Hand-laid interwoven layers of fibreglass with organic fibres and resin in various layers provide a shock-absorbent shell with optimum rigidity. Complete with a shell-integrated spoiler that has a consistent thickness guaranteeing proper strength and weight. The shell has been designed to offer a wider and taller field of vision, great for spotting potential hazards often found in a road touring environment. Across the range, the GT-AIR II is constructed with three different shell sizes the first from extra-small to medium, the second for large helmets and the third for extra-large to extra-extra-large, which enables a perfect fit and more compact dimensions.
Past the shell is the impact-absorbing EPS liner. The multi-density EPS liner provides enhanced impact absorption by utilising varying densities of foam, each layer is designed for different levels of shock absorption from low speed to high-speed impacts. The precise placement of the multi-density EPS material yields a more compact and lightweight design which increases rider comfort.
The inner GSV-2 sun visor is designed to be opened and closed quickly by lever operation, enabling you to promptly respond to sudden changes in visibility when entering a tunnel or when the clouds clear brightening your path. The sun visor can be fixed in position by pulling out the levers on both sides of the eye-port. Compared to the QSV-1 sun visor of the GT-AIR the QSV-2 visor in the GT-AIR II is extended by 5mm which reduces the penetration of sunlight from the gap between the sun visor and eye-port. To avoid interference with the nose due to the sun visor extension, the shape of the nose is cut 5mm deeper than the GT-AIR.
As a touring helmet, the GT-AIR II is designed to keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer and remain comfortable on extended rides. The upper air intake shutter has been redesigned and combined with the enlarged lower air intake opening enables greater, fresh cooling air into the helmet. Both the upper and lower vents have large shutters easing their operation with gloves on, so you can adjust airflow without removing your kit. In total, the GT-AIR II has three intake vents for excellent fresh air inflow and five exhaust vents which enables the GT-AIR II to remove hot humid air with ease.
The shock-absorbing EPS liner is constructed from two separate parts. Between them, there is a system of ventilation channels that effectively carries fresh air to the rider´s head and vents out warm humid air. All Shoei full-face helmets use a sophisticated ventilation intake below the shield window which supplies fresh breathing air to the rider, but also steers an airflow along the inside of the shield, this helps to keep the shield dry and clear of fog.
The GT-AIR II has been wind tunnel optimised to maximise airflow and improve negative air pressure exhaust suction while striking the perfect balance between airflow and silence. Shoei’s wind-tunnel optimisation results in a compact shell shape with aggressive, streamlined styling, improved airtight window beading and the reduction of unwanted wind and road noise
The GT-AIR II padding fits snuggly around your head, without ever feeling unpleasant. The bottom of the interior has no rims or overlapping parts which prevent turbulence and noise. The interior is constructed from exclusive Max-Dry material which absorbs and dissipates sweat 2x faster than traditional nylon. Shoei took perfection one step further and designed the entire interior to be removable, washable, replaceable and adjustable. Optional interior components are available in different sizes for a tailored fit helmet, taking comfort to the maximum!
Shoei’s GT-AIR II is also constructed with the Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S). In the event of a rider accident, it is more difficult than expected for a third party to perform rescue operations to remove the helmet from the rider. The GT-Air II EQRS is a special ribbon on the cheek pad that when pulled removes the cheek pads from the helmet enabling the helmet to be simply lifted off reducing the burden on the riders potentially damaged neck and spine.
Shoei’s unique and patented 100% stainless steel interlocking mechanism has been included to secure the helmet to your head. The ratchet system provides a quick and smooth closure and opening, is extremely comfortable and enables simple adjustability. The system can also be used with a thick glove, great for keeping warm hands during the winter or for quick stops where removing your gloves is unnecessary.
Following in the footsteps of the successful NEOTEC II, Shoei’s GT-AIR II has been designed to perfectly integrate with SENA’s SRL2 communication system. The low-profile device is essentially undetectable from the outside of the helmet which provides a sleek look. The SRL2 has a simple 3-button control and comes with updated, detachable microphone options. Pair to your smartphone so you can listen to music, hear GPS directions, talk on the phone and more. The SENA SRL2 is available separately.
The Shoei GT-AIR II is available in 16 different colour options including solid, mattes and graphics in sizes XS to 2XL starting at $849.00 so you can be assured we’ll have the perfect GT-AIR II for you.
